Mae Salong
Mae Salong (แม่สลอง) is a village in Chiang Rai Province. Mae Salong is famous as being settled by remnants of the Nationalist Chinese Army 93rd Division (Kuomintang) who moved over the mountains from Burma to Thai territory in 1961. Mae Salong is also known as Doi Mae Salong (ดอยแม่สลอง) and officially known as Santikhiri (สันติคีรี). Mae Salong is more less a small village high up on the mountainsides of Doi Mae Salong over looking the Chiang Rai Valley.

Mae Salong is a little chunk of China, a village strung along a misty ridge inhabited by old Kuomintang rebels and several generations of their offspring, offering cool alipine vistas, and selling tea and hill tribe treks to the back country. The claim to fame is the oolong tea plantations established by the Kuomintang (a Taiwan influence).
