Hill Tribes in North Thailand
The north of Thailand's culture is Lanna in origin. Kingdom of Lanna (อาณาจักรล้านนา) ... "Kingdom of Million Rice Fields" was a state in what is now northern Thailand from 13th until 18th century. Hill tribes people where separate from the Lanna & Burmese influences and have their own unique cultures. The 9 hilltribes peoples of North Thailand: Akha, Lahu, Lisu, Yao, Hmong, Karen, Lua, Khamu, and Hotin.
Hill Tribes of North Thailand
Akha Tribe :: the largest population of hill tribe people. Originating from Tibet and Southern China. They dwell on high grounds around 1,200 meters.
Chine Hor Tribe :: mainly around Doi Mae Salong Hmong from southern China high lands. Craftsmanship in embroidery and silver.
Lahu Tribe:: from the Yunnese area hunter-planters. Lived in small valleys along riverbanks.
Lisaw Tribe:: from Tibet and Southern China. Build their houses on high poles.
Tai Yai Tribe:: from Burma. Raise cattle and are known traders. Craftsmanship in weaving, pottery, wood carving.
Tai LueTribe :: Build their houses on high poles. Craftsmanship in weaving.
Yao Tribe :: mountain sides farmers. Craftsmanship in blacksmiths, and silversmiths.
